Who is MSC Cruises?

Founded by Gianluigi Aponte, a young Italian seaman, in 1970 when he purchased a single cargo ship and started Mediterranean Shipping Company. It has since grown into a world leader operating 560 vessels. In 1988, Aponte decided to enter the cruising industry after a purchase of the Monterey in honor of Aponte's mentor. By adding two more cruising vessels, MSC Cruises officially became a subsidiary of the MSC group.

MSC Cruises has grown to become the world's third-largest cruise brand and a market leader in Europe, South America, the Gulf region, and Southern Africa. Dedicated to creating unforgettable voyages of discovery, MSC Cruises combines luxury, innovation, and sustainability. Their state-of-the-art ships feature cutting-edge technology, a strong commitment to marine conservation, and world-class entertainment, ensuring an enriching experience for every traveler.

MSC's Presence in the U.S.

MSC Cruises have been gradually increasing their presence in the U.S. since 2013, when MSC Divina was first positioned there. Over the years, MSC Cruises has grown to include four home ports in the United States—Miami, Port Canaveral, New York City, and its upcoming home port, Galveston.

With a strong European influence, MSC Cruises offers a unique alternative to other mainstream cruise lines, focusing on elegant ship designs, international dining options, and immersive entertainment. The cruise line has gained popularity among U.S. travelers looking for a luxury experience at an affordable price, as well as those eager to explore diverse itineraries in the Caribbean, Europe, and beyond.

In recent years, MSC has continued to invest in the U.S. market, introducing state-of-the-art ships like MSC Seascape and MSC World America and opening Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, a private island in the Bahamas designed exclusively for MSC guests.

Now, with the upcoming Galveston home port, MSC is set to offer even more accessibility for cruisers in Texas and the surrounding region. This expansion marks another milestone in MSC’s commitment to providing world-class cruising experiences to a growing U.S. audience.
